Hospice of Central Pennsylvania enjoys wide-spread support from across the community. This support contributes to our ability to provide services to hundreds of patients and their families each year. Hospice of Central PA is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which provides care regardless of an individual's financial situation. No one is ever turned away for hospice care because of inability to pay. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Hospice of Central Pennsylvania relies on donations, grants and fundraising events to supplement the payments we receive from insurance and Medicare. Since the generosity of private donors is so important to enabling us to provide hospice and bereavement services in the Capital Area, we offer several opportunities to give and accept a wide variety of gifts. If desired, a donor may also designate how he or she would like their gift to be used.

Opportunities to Give

Memorial Gift Program - The Hospice of Central Pennsylvania Memorial Gift Program is a meaningful way for families and friends to express thanks for the role that our volunteers and staff played during their loved one's illness. It is also a way to honor or memorialize someone who made a significant impact on your life. To make an immediate donation, you may download the form HERE and mail it with your gift.

Annual Appeal - Each spring, we mail an appeal for donations to a growing base of past and prospective donors. If you would like to add your name to our mailing list, please contact us via phone (717 732-1000) or e-mail (donations@hospiceofcentralpa.org).

Tree of Light - Throughout the holiday season, we invite members of the community to make a donation in memory or in honor of someone special. These gifts put individual lights on an evergreen tree that stands at the foot of the Walnut St. Bridge in Harrisburg. Each light represents the person in whose name the donation was made. In early December, we host a traditional tree lighting ceremony that attracts hundreds of people to this joyous and emotion-filled event, after which the tree remains lit throughout the holiday season. Please join us on December 10, 2007 at 7 p.m. for our 20th Tree of Light ceremony.

Walkway of Caring - Hospice of Central PA has built a Walkway of Caring on the grounds of the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence.  This walkway further enhances the beauty of the property satisfies the desire of family and friends to commemorate the life of someone important to them.  It is also a means to raise funds for an endowed Community Caring Fund. The proceeds of the Fund will be held and invested to provide a perpetual flow of resources to help underwrite the unreimbursed costs of patients who need the services of the Hospice Residence. To learn more about the Walkway, please click here. You may also go directly to a form to order a brick in memory or honor of someone you love..

Matching Gifts - Many employers match charitable gifts made by their employees. You may inquire of your employer's Human Resources Department to see if your company makes matching gifts. If so, ask them for the form that you need Hospice of Central Pennsylvania to fill out and send it to us with your gift and the name and address to which we should return it. We will complete the form and return it on your behalf.

United Way - Hospice of Central Pennsylvania is a United Way Program Partner. Many of our United Way donors, as well as those who participate in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and the State Employees Combined Appeal (SECA) choose to designate some or all of their contribution to our agency during the fall employer campaign.

Special Events and Community Group Support - Many clubs, service organizations, school groups, churches and synagogues support Hospice of Central Pennsylvania with special fundraising events. Please contact our Development Coordinator (Ph: 717-732-1000; e-mail: donations@hospiceofcentralpa.org) if your organization has an idea for an event that will help support the work of our agency.

Golf and Tennis Classic

The first event of the season was the Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club on March 29, 2008. This was an outstanding opportunity to play on a beautiful court before the weather permited outside play.

The Ladies Tennis event was a great success on May 29, 2008 at the Hershey Country Club. Likewise, our Men's Tennis tourney had outstanding participation at West Shore Country Club on June 16, 2008.

The 27th Annual Golf Classic for Men teed off in beautiful weather on June 16, 2008 at West Shore Country Club. West Shore Country Club will also host the Ladies' Golf event on June 30, 2008. Click here for information on sponsorships and for a sponsorship reply card for both golf tournaments.

Planned Gifts

Planned gifts are those that a donor makes from assets that are no longer required to provide for family needs. They may be end-of-life gifts like bequests, life insurance or proceeds from retirement accounts, or they may be special gifts of assets like appreciated securities, real estate or personal property made during one’s lifetime.

Bequests - Over the years a number of donors have made gifts to our agency through their wills. A bequest in the name of Hospice of Central Pennsylvania can take the form of a fixed dollar amount, a percentage of the residual of the estate, or specified property. This type of gift ensures that you leave a legacy that supports our valuable mission beyond your lifetime.

Life Insurance - You can contribute assets that are no longer required to provide for your family by naming Hospice of Central Pennsylvania as either the owner/beneficiary or simply the beneficiary. This type of gift permits you to make a substantial donation to Hospice without having to use other assets in your estate, and it may also have tax benefits for you today.

Retirement Accounts - A retirement account (IRA, 401k, company or government pension fund) often represents a substantial portion of an estate, and it carries its own unique tax implications. If this asset is no longer needed to support family members, another way to make a charitable gift to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania is to name us to receive some or all of the funds that remain in the account at death.

Charitable Trusts - There are many ways for you to use charitable trusts to make a gift to Hospice either now or at some future point, while also providing an income stream for yourself or someone else.

Stock and Securities - If you have appreciated stock, bonds or mutual funds you may transfer them to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania and forego the capital gains tax you would otherwise incur when selling them. Under most circumstances, you will also be eligible for a current year tax deduction of the full sales value of the stock.

Other Gifts - If you have easily marketable real estate or personal property that Hospice of Central Pennsylvania can accept and sell without detracting from our mission, we would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss this with you.

For more information on options for using bequests, life insurance, retirement funds or charitable trusts to make a planned gift to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, or to discuss donating stock, bonds, mutual funds, real estate or personal property, please contact Dan Hayward, Director of Planned Giving at 717-732-1000, 866-779-7374 or via e-mail to donations@hospiceofcentralpa.org.

To make an immediate cash, check or credit card donation, you may download the form HERE and mail it with your gift. If your gift is in memory or honor of someone, please tell us the name and address of the person whom you would like us to notify that you made the gift.

We recommend that you consult your attorney, accountant or financial planner regarding the legal and tax implications of all types of charitable giving on your personal financial situation
