While Hospice of Central Pennsylvania seeks to care for people in their own home, we recognize that in certain instances this is not possible. For example:

A patient has a lengthy illness and the spouse becomes overwhelmed by care-giving responsibilities. |

A patient lives with an adult child whose family or job responsibilities make it difficult to be a full time
caregiver.

A patient lives alone with no caregiver and reaches a point where it is no longer safe to be at home. |
In order to provide hospice care for individuals who could not remain in their own home, we opened The Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence in 1996 and expanded it in 2000. It is located on Linglestown Road in Susquehanna Township – just minutes off of I-81. Named in honor of one of our hospice nurses, the Residence is uniquely designed to look and feel more like a private home than a hospital or nursing facility.
The building includes six private bedrooms, a solarium, two living rooms, a sitting room, and a large handicapped accessible bathroom. There are two kitchens which provide full meal service for patients and a dining room that can be used for family gatherings and special meals.
Situated on several wooded acres, the ground around the residence is private and serene. Mature landscaping and a meandering brook help to create a year round sense of natural peace. A covered patio and a beautiful gazebo complement the setting and provide places for patients and family members to spend quiet moments outdoors. The home is open to family and friends 24 hours a day, so they may visit their loved one whenever they wish and stay as long as they desire.
The Residence is licensed as a Personal Care Facility, and trained hospice staff members are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days of the week to care for patients. Hospice volunteers provide extra hands to assist the care team, help with the daily household tasks, and offer a friendly ear to patients and family members. When patients are unable to remain in their own home, we feel we can offer them the next best thing . . . our home.
